Human resources is the key factor for Vietnamese logistics enterprises to expand their markets

Economic experts assess that Vietnam's logistics sector holds significant growth potential and can participate more deeply in the global logistics chain. Vietnam is considered one of four Southeast Asian countries with strong potential to develop both infrastructure and logistics systems.

In recent years, the logistics industry in Vietnam has grown at a rate of around 14-16%, with a market size of approximately USD 40-42 billion per year. With the advantage of being located along a convenient maritime trade route, Vietnam has favorable conditions to become an international seaport and transshipment hub. However, the competitiveness of Vietnam's logistics sector remains limited. Among the challenges, human resources are currently the most pressing issue. Due to rapid and hot development, the industry is facing a shortage of skilled personnel, both in terms of quantity and quality. This challenge has become even more acute as Vietnam joins the ASEAN Economic Community and engages in new-generation free trade agreements.

Research data shows that Vietnam's logistics workforce is not only lacking in number but also in quality. Currently, there are about 4,000 logistics companies in Vietnam, and by 2030, the demand for logistics human resources is expected to exceed 200,000 people. However, the supply of qualified logistics personnel meets only about 10% of the market demand, indicating a severe shortage in both quantity and quality.

human resources

Human resources are a foundational and strategic element in the sustainable development of logistics services. Especially in the context of globalization and the strong emergence of the Industrial Revolution 4.0, human capital will be a decisive, crucial, and urgent factor in enhancing the competitiveness of enterprises. In the long term, human resources will determine the ability of Vietnamese logistics enterprises to catch up with other countries, improve competitiveness, and expand their markets domestically, regionally, and internationally.

To meet the human resource needs, both in terms of scale and quality, and to effectively serve the logistics industry in the coming period, training institutions must strengthen partnerships, enhance collaboration in training, and work with universities to organize high-quality training programs for students, trainees, and senior business leaders and managers.

Human resources will be one of the decisive factors enabling Vietnamese logistics enterprises to grow rapidly, enhance competitiveness, and expand their markets both domestically and internationally. A critical task now is to accelerate digital transformation and develop a high-quality logistics workforce that meets the demands of the Industrial Revolution 4.0 and international cooperation.
